Clare Town Council represents the 2173* residents of Clare. Given its status as a key service centre, the Parish Council restyled itself as a Town Council in 2012, gaining no additional powers but repositioning itself as Suffolk’s smallest town. The council owns and maintains a number of the key civic facilities and open spaces in the town including the cemetery and the Nuttery community woodland. The council employs three part-time street wardens and a part-time cemetery management officer in this regard. It is statutory consultee for local planning applications and supports a wide range of community groups and voluntary organisations, both financially and through partnership working.
Who’s who at Clare Town Council?
Town Council meetings take place monthly, usually at 7pm on the third Thursday of the month.
Members of the public are welcome to attend meetings. If you are interested in local affairs, please get involved. Please contact the Clerk for further information: clerk@clare-suffolk.co.uk
A portion of the Town Council’s workload has been delegated to two committees in accordance with annually agreed terms of reference. The Environment Committee manages the maintenance of the cemetery, environmental assets and open spaces, and oversees the relevant staff; the Finance Committee was set up in 2023/24 with the aim of being more strategic in long term planning and budgeting.
