Clare Town Council is aware of the ongoing temporary closure of Clare Post Office and understands the significant inconvenience and concern this is causing for residents.
The Post Office has advised that the branch is currently closed due to a “system issue”, but unfortunately has not provided a clear timescale for when services will resume. We appreciate that the lack of information is frustrating, particularly for residents who rely on the Post Office for banking and other essential services.
The closure is particularly difficult for those who do not have access to a car or who find it difficult to travel to alternative Post Office branches. With the withdrawal of the Lloyds mobile banking service, the Post Office also provides an important means of accessing face-to-face banking services within Clare.
Our Chair Cllr Eyre has raised these concerns with our MP, Nick Timothy MP, asking for greater clarity from the Post Office about the situation and when the branch is expected to reopen.
We are pleased to confirm that Nick Timothy has agreed to contact the Post Office directly to request further information and an update on the expected reopening date. He has also agreed to keep the Town Council informed of any response he receives.
At present, we have not been given any information confirming that Clare Post Office is being permanently closed. We understand that the current closure is being described as temporary while the reported system issue is resolved.
We will share any further information we receive as soon as we are able to.
We appreciate residents’ patience and understand how important it is for the community to have access to reliable Post Office and banking services within Clare.
