Public benches

There are public benches across Clare.  They are checked every year by a member of the Town Council’s Environment Committee.  Replacements are ordered when required, usually at the rate of one every year.  New ones may also be purchased and installed.  It is our policy to use recycled plastic ones – they are not easily vandalised and last longer.  Even sturdy wooden ones may not last beyond 10 years.

In 2016 replacement bars were placed on the metal framework seating in Stoke Road (just in front of the Anglian Water pumping station).

A new bench was placed outside the Pharmacy in the High Street: this was in part sponsored by Clare Pharmacy.

A further two benches will be installed, both in the Cemetery, as replacements.  One will be sponsored by Paintins, the funeral directors.  This will be positioned on a new site in the south-east corner where there is an uninterrupted view of the grounds and will allow ‘quiet’ onlookers in the season to see the barn owls flying to and fro the large oak.

A second bench is being provided by the MacNair family to replace an existing but faulty bench in the turning circle nearest to the Chapel.

The Town Council are happy to consider placing benches elsewhere in the town and will accept sponsorship in whole or in part.  The planting of trees or the provision of  flower troughs will also be considered.  Please contact the clerk for further information: clerk(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)clare-suffolk.co.uk
