Clare Playing Field was created in 1974 and is run by a trust, the Clare Playing Field Association. This was re-formed as a CIO (Charitable Incorporated Organisation) and registered on 18 April 2017 (No 1172604 on Charity Commission website).
The Pavilion was built in part with a grant of £ 188,786 from the Football Foundation and from a grant from Clare Town Council (a Public Board loan). The Pavilion is available for hire (CO10 8PH).
There is a well established Football Club with senior and junior members.

The aims of the trust are:
‘To promote for the benefit of the inhabitants of Clare and the surrounding area, the provision of facilities for recreation or other leisure time, occupation of individuals who have need of such facilities by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disablement, financial hardship or social and economic circumstances, or for the public at large in the interests of social welfare and with the object of improving the condition of life of the said inhabitants.’
